The City of Allentown is characterized by a large stock of historic homes, commercial structures and century-old industrial buildings. Allentown's Center City neighborhoods mainly consist of a variety of Victorian and Federal rowhomes. The stately homes around West Park are mostly Victorian and Craftsman-style. The houses on the city's tree-lined streets in the West End were mostly built in the 1920s and 1940s. Houses in the City's East Side and South Side are a mixture of architectural styles and are generally single and twin family homes built from the 1940s through the 1960s but there are also some older Victorian homes. JDRF works towards a day when there is no more type 1 diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is usually diagnosed in children and young adults, and was previously known as juvenile diabetes. In type 1 diabetes, the body does not produce insulin. Diabetes - is a problem with your body that causes blood glucose (sugar) levels to rise higher than normal. This is also called hyperglycemia. When you eat your body breaks food down into glucose and sends it into the blood. Insulin then helps move the glucose from the blood into your cells. When glucose enters your cells, it is either used as fuel for energy right away or stored for later use. In a person with diabetes, there is a problem with insulin. JDRF is the leading global organization funding T1D research with more than 100 U.S. locations and 6 international affiliates. Since inception, JDRF has contributed over $1.9B to T1D research and including $98M in 2014. JDRF is currently funding 45 human clinical trials of potential T1D therapies. Approximately 80% of JDRF expenditures directly support T1D research and research-related education. JDRF’s mission is to find a cure for type 1 diabetes and its complications through the support of research. JDRF International is the leading global organization funding type 1 diabetes research. People with diabetes may develop serious complications such as heart disease, stroke, kidney failure, blindness, and premature death. People with diabetes can take steps to manage the disease and lower the chance of health problems. There is no way to prevent it, and at present, no cure. JDRF works every day to change this by amassing grassroots support, deep scientific knowledge and strong industry and academic partnerships to fund research. JDRF’s goal is to progressively remove the impact of T1D from people’s lives until they achieve a world without T1D. JDRF's vision, the Beta Cell Restoration Program, will not only stop the autoimmune attack but also return the number of beta cells to a normal level. JDRF is developing vaccines that will re-train the immune system to eliminate autoimmunity and leave the beta cells alone. Type 1 diabetes (‪T1D‬) can occur in anyone—not just kids. Aaron believes that the walk or JDRF membership isn’t about having something in the resume or feeling good. It’s about the staff time. Every walk furthers that mission and gets them closer to the ultimate cure. The total spirit is amazingly high; they join the walk because they want to help. T1D strikes both children and adults at any age and suddenly. Its onset has nothing to do with diet or lifestyle. Though T1D’s causes are not yet entirely understood, scientists believe that both genetic factors and environmental triggers play a role. There is currently nothing you can do to prevent it, and there is no cure. Type 1 diabetes strikes both children and adults at any age. It comes on suddenly, causes dependence on injected or pumped insulin for life, and carries the constant threat of devastating complications. Although manufacturers recommend storing your insulin in the refrigerator, injecting cold insulin can sometimes make the injection more painful. To avoid this, many providers suggest storing the bottle of insulin you are using at room temperature. Insulin kept at room temperature will last approximately 1 month. Remember though, if you buy more than one bottle at a time to save money, store the extra bottles in the refrigerator. Then, take out the bottle ahead of time so it is ready for your next injection. Here are some other tips for storing insulin: Do not store your insulin near extreme heat or extreme cold. Never store insulin in the freezer, direct sunlight, or in the glove compartment of a car. City parks in Allentown include Bicentennial Park (4,600 seat mini-stadium built for sporting events), Cedar Creek Parkway (127 acres, including Lake Muhlenberg, Cedar Beach and the Malcolm W. Much of the city's park system can be attributed to the efforts of industrialist Harry Clay Trexler. Check our Webpage http://preventdiabetes.jdrftypeone.com Type 1 diabetes is an auto-immune condition in which the immune system is activated to destroy the cells in the pancreas which produce insulin. We do not know what causes this auto-immune reaction. Type 1 diabetes is not linked to modifiable lifestyle factors. There is no cure and it cannot be prevented. Type 1 diabetes: - Occurs when the pancreas does not produce insulin - Represents around 10% of all cases of diabetes and is one of the most common chronic childhood conditions - Onset is usually abrupt and the symptoms obvious - Symptoms can include excessive thirst and urination, unexplained weight loss, weakness and fatigue and blurred vision - Is managed with insulin injections several times a day or the use of an insulin pump. This Beta Society tries to raise money for JDRF research to find the ultimate cure for T1D. All John’s family, his grandfather was T1D agent and John’s daughter, Alice, is a T1D agent too. JDRF Beta Society is trying to help the research and to find the ultimate solution to fight T1D. JDRF research has a great progress in T1D treatment. Fifty years ago people with T1D even didn’t know their blood sugar level and the daily routine was even harder. John personally knows that T1D treatment has got an enormous progress. T1D people of today may have a lot of beneficial results JDRF research in T1D treatment. JDRF prioritizes its funding for type 1 diabetes research in four interrelated therapeutic areas: autoimmune therapies, β-cell therapies, prevention of complications, and glucose control. Each therapeutic area encompasses a diverse portfolio of research programs that span from exploratory to preclinical proof-of-principle and on to clinical proof-of-concept research. The organization’s overarching strategy focuses on addressing critical gaps and challenges, catalyzing innovative and transformational research, advancing and translating research, creating collaborations, and accelerating time lines at all stages of research development. To facilitate downstream partnering and follow-on funding, JDRF increasingly supports product development by “de-risking” projects, thereby decreasing the barriers of entry for future funders. Excluded from this sector are aerobic classes in Subsector 713, Amusement, Gambling, and Recreation Industries and nonmedical diet and weight reducing centers in Subsector 812, Personal and Laundry Services. Although these can be viewed as health services, these services are not typically delivered by health practitioners. JDRF is the leading global organization funding type 1 diabetes (T1D) research. JDRF’s goal is to progressively remove the impact of T1D from people’s lives until we achieve a world without T1D. Type 1 diabetes (Juvenile Diabetes) is usually diagnosed in children and young adults, and was previously known as juvenile diabetes. Only 5% of people with diabetes have this form of the disease. In type 1 diabetes, the body does not produce insulin. The body breaks down the sugars and starches you eat into a simple sugar called glucose, which it uses for energy. Insulin is a hormone that the body needs to get glucose from the bloodstream into the cells of the body. With the help of insulin therapy and other treatments, even young children can learn to manage their condition and live long, healthy lives. 18.2 million people in the United States (6.3 percent of the population) have been diagnosed with diabetes. JDRF’s research goal is to discover, develop, and deliver advances that progressively remove the impact of T1D from people’s lives until we find a cure. JDRF is driving research across the entire scientific spectrum, from discovery in the laboratory to delivery of new technologies and treatments to people with T1D. The full impact of JDRF’s research investment extends well beyond our direct funding. Now more than ever, we see the value in leveraging partnerships with academia, industry and clinicians to ensure that the most promising research opportunities are funded and accelerated. JDRF is a major charitable 501 organization dedicated to funding type 1 diabetes research. JDRF’s stated vision is "a world without type 1 diabetes." alfred f. People with T1D don’t look any different from the others. None can outgo T1D and it’s not caused by your diet and it’s not caused by anything you did. It’s a kind of hard to live with this disease. People with T1D have always to check blood sugar levels a lot. Everyone, who is with an insulin pump or pricking his finger – no doubt he is a diabetic. To know more about it is easy – just ask this person about it. T1D – this hard disease – looks like everyone, who has it. Everyone, who is diabetic, can easily say – T1D looks like he or she. Allentown is a city located in Lehigh County, Pennsylvania, in the United States. It is Pennsylvania's third most populous city, after Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, and the 215th largest city in the United States. As of the 2010 census, the city had a total population of 118,032 and is currently the fastest growing city in Pennsylvania. It is also the county seat of Lehigh County. JDRF has led the search for a cure for T1D since our founding in 1970. In those days, people commonly called the disease “juvenile diabetes” because it was frequently diagnosed in, and strongly associated with, young children. Our organization began as the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. Later, to emphasize exactly how we planned to end the disease, we added a word and became the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.Today, we know an equal number of children and adults are diagnosed every day—approximately 110 people per day. Thanks to better therapies—which JDRF funding has been instrumental in developing and making available—people with T1D live longer and stay healthier while they await the cure. Founded by parents determined to find a cure for their children with T1D, JDRF expanded through grassroots fundraising and advocacy efforts to become a powerhouse in the scientific community with more than 100 U.S. locations and six international affiliates. We’ve funded nearly $2 billion in research to date and made significant progress in understanding and fighting the disease. We must keep up the pace of funding so progress doesn’t slow or stop entirely. You’re the reason for our success. Every dollar we put toward research comes from donations. So when you support JDRF with your time, talent, voice and, yes, your money, you enable us to advance even more research. The Lake Tahoe hosted JDRF Ride and a great number of people participated in the event. People were excited and extremely happy. The overall spirit was high. It’s wasn’t a race, just a ride for everyone. All the riders had one common mission – to cure diabetes and to turn type one into type none. JDRF coaches help the cyclists to keep fit and healthy. Everyone, who is thoughtful, can join the ride. T1D people after their first ride began to feel better and their self-esteem rises enormously.
